Moby

Moby was actually born Richard Melville Hall in New York on 11th September, 1965. He got the nickname ‘Moby’ since his great-great grand uncle, Herman Melville, is the author of Moby Dick. During his teens, Moby was a member of hardcore punk bands like the Vatican Commandos and Flipper. Moby gradually gained confidence and released a series of dance singles on the New York based Instinct Label. It was in 1991 that he produced a remix called ‘Go’ which reached the UK top 10. There was no looking back for Moby. He was in demand and worked with artists like Pet Shop Boys, Michael Jackson, Brian Eno, Erasure, and the Orbital, to mention only a few.

His debut album which was self titled released in 1992. This was followed by hits like ‘I feel it/thousand’, released in 1993, which reached the UK top 40. Another interesting thing about ‘Thousand’ was that it was recognized by The Guinness Book Of Records as ‘the fastest single ever’.

Moby released ‘Ambient’ on the Mute Label in the UK, which was again a huge success. 1994 saw Moby sign up with Elektra Records in the US. His track ‘Everything is Wrong’ received rave reviews and reached #21 in UK. His rock album ‘Animal Rights’ was another major success for Moby. His ‘James Bond Theme’ gained entry at #8 in UK in 1997. The travel bug caught him and very soon he was doing gigs around the world. Every where he went he connected with his audience like none other, making scintillating music and rocking dance floors, worldwide.

1999 saw him come up with his next album ‘Play’, featuring a mix of pop and electronica. It went platinum in the UK. The track ‘South Side’ from the album was a US top 20 hit. The other tracks like ‘Natural Blues’ and ‘Why does my Heart Feel So Bad’ were chart busters, too. Come 2002 and Moby was back with another hit ‘18’. It topped the UK charts and perched itself at the US top 5. Party time folks, Moby is here.
