Mariah Carey - Not Trance but Influential to the Genre & Hot.

Music is in the blood of this best-selling female performer of the 1990s. She was born in Long Island, NY on March 27, 1970 as the daughter of a former opera singer and vocal coach. She began singing at an incredibly young age of four and began penning her own songs by the time she was attending Oldfield Middle School. She moved to New York City aged 17, to pursue a music career, where she met keyboardist Ben Marguiles, with whom she began writing songs. The turning point came when she became a backing vocalist on a studio session with pop-singer Brenda K.Starr. Brenda handed over her demo tape to Columbia Records head Tommy Mottola and thus was born a one of a kind music diva.

Mariah’s self-titled Columbia debut released in 1990. It had an extraordinary four number one singles, ‘Love Takes Time’, ‘Someday’, ‘I Don’t Wanna Cry’ and ‘Vision of Love’. Grammy awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Vocalist followed. The very next year her next album ‘Emotions’ was a mega-hit. 1992 saw her come out with her next release MTV Unplugged EP, catapulting her to unprecedented heights.

Carey produced her most commercially successful album with the release of ‘Music’ Box’ in 1993, which contained chart topping singles ‘Dreamlover’ and ‘Hero’. This album, believe it or not, went ten-times platinum. Her first holiday album ‘Merry Christmas’, with ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ was her next milestone. ‘Daydream’ in 1995 with the single ‘Fantasy’ debuted at number one making her the second artist in history and the first female performer to accomplish this mind-blowing feat.

Her most hip-hop flavored recording came with ‘Butterfly’ in 1997. 2001 saw Mariah sign up with Virgin Records to release ‘Glitter’ with soundtrack album to the film of the same name. She was also the lead actor in the movie. Mariah was also seen in the films ‘The Bachelor’ in 1999 and ‘Wisegirls’ released in 2002. The very same year she signed an exclusive recording contract with the Universal Music Group’s Island Records in addition to forming her own label. ‘Emancipation of Mimi’ released in 2005 portrays the challenges that she experienced during her rise to musical stardom. The two Grammy Awards, eight American Music Awards, Billboard’s ‘Artist of the Decade’ Award and the World Music Award for ‘World’s Best Selling Female Artist of the Millennium’, among other recognitions in her kitty, stand testimony to her unprecedented talent.
