Garnier was born on February 1, 1966.
This French techno music producer and techno DJ though started
out DJing in Manchester, gradually emerging as a crowd
favorite with his ability to span classic deep house,
acid/trance, and Detroit techno. One just has to look
at the queues of enthusiasts outside places like ‘Rex
Club’ in Paris where he has held residencies,
to gauge his influence on the dance music scene.
He has been instrumental in shaping
the Manchester music scene from the late 1980s. His
early gigs at Manchester’s famous ‘Hacienda
club’ are still remembered for their unique
blend of house rhythms and rock music. Garnier came
back to France during the early 90s running the hugely
successful ‘Wake Up’ club in Paris. He
also formed the F Communications label with friend
Eric Morand during this time. His release for the
FNAC label ‘French Connection’ was a trendsetter,
making him a name to reckon within the industry.
He launched his first LP ‘Shot
in the Dark’ in 1995 and his second one ‘30’
two years later in 1997. This included his mega hit
‘Crispy Bacon’, a single often quoted
as being the ‘perfect techno’ record.
‘Early Works’ followed
‘30’ and set dance floors on fire. The
year 2000 saw him come up with the album ‘Unreasonable
Behavior’ with the foot tapping single, ‘The
Man with the Red Face’. ‘The Cloud Making
Machine’ in 2005 and his latest album ‘Retrospective’,
a collection of his original works and remixes with
some great previously unheard of tracks, continues
to be a chart buster. Laurent Garnier is a truly one
of a kind DJ and producer.
