Felix Da Housecat
Rated by none other than Entertainment
Weekly, Rolling Stone, and Spin as ‘one of the
most creative artists in music today’, DJ Felix
Da Housecat was born Felix Stallings
in Chicago, Illinois. This multi-talented DJ and record
producer is regarded as a key member of the second
wave of Chicago House music. He shot to fame under
a number of aliases including ‘Sharimaxx’
and ‘Aphrohead’ apart from being his ownership
of Radikal Fear Records, a premier label of the 1990s.
A 15 year old young Stallings got his first big break
under the guidance of DJ Pierre when he released his
first single ‘Phantasy Girl’, way back
in 1987. His 1992 hit single ‘Three Dawn’
on Guerilla Records and the follow-up ‘By Dawn’s
Early Light’ and ‘Thee Industry Made Me
Do It’, saw his popularity charity zoom. There
was no looking back.
Radikal Records formed by Stallings
became one of the foremost House labels in the world
during this time and several leading DJs including
Sneak and Armando released cuts apart from Stallings
himself as part of the label. The year 1995 saw him
release his debut full length album ‘Alone in
the Dark’, followed by ‘The Chicago All
Stars’. Another smash hit ‘Metropolis
Present Day’ followed in 1998.
Then came the critically acclaimed
‘Kittenz and Thee Glitz,’ which got him
world wide exposure in the dance music circles. In
fact, the release is often mentioned as the pioneering
release of the ‘electroclash’ movement.
From Madonna to Kylie Minogue, everyone worked with
him for remixes. 2002’s ‘Excursions’
and 2003’s ‘A Bugged Out Mix’ saw
him further consolidate his position. Stallings was
nominated for Grammy for his mix of Rinocerose’s
‘Lost Love’ in 2003.
May of 2005 saw Felix release ‘Bring
Me Da Funk’ along with his idol Peds. This smash
hit was released on their label ‘Shy-fxl-records’.
His phenomenal popularity meant that this versatile
genius’ music was featured in the snowboarding
game ‘SSX 3’ and his hit single ‘Rocket
Ride’ was featured in the game ‘Need for
Speed Underground 2’. Great going Felix, spin
‘em hard and bring the house down.
