Mark Farina

Originally from Chicago, Mark Farina has had a great impact on the San Francisco house music scene. His chic, dance-floor friendly style of house, hip-hop, mixed with jazz was evident in his phenomenally popular ‘Mushroom Jazz’ series of releases.

Mark Farina starting DJing quite early, as early as 15 in fact. He, along with Derrick Carter, produced a Friday night radio show for two long years at Northwestern University’s radio station, WNUR. It was during this phase that Farina under the strong infleuce of Chicago’s house music released ‘Mood’ as part of the trio Symbols and Instruments. His career graph from then on, literally zoomed. He relocated to San Francisco and very soon he found weekly residency in a club ‘Jazid Up’. The popularity of Mushroom Jazz CD on Om Records released in 1996, took him on a global tour. The year 1996 also saw him come up with another mix CD ‘Season’s One’, on Domestic Records. Mushroom Jazz vol.2 released in 1998 followed by his original work ‘Midnight Calling’. It was in 1999 that a CD showcasing Farina’s exuberant style of down-tempo and disco-vocals was released, consisting of a triple-vinyl packing. Farina released the eagerly awaited third installment of Mushroom Jazz in 2001.

Not for nothing is Mark Farina often called the ‘wandering minstrel’. He is made for the crowds and has enthralled thousands of fans across the globe. His chunky-funky rhythms and underground house mean that he connects with frenzied music lovers in his own unique way. His spectacular shows are much sought after by millions of club goers. Mark Farina has been voted in the top 20 DJs list by both MUZIK and BPM Mags.
