This Dutchman rocks! DJ Tiesto has an unmatched passion for music. He started out with his passion when he was just eight. A star in his native Holland, his name is actually Tijs Verwest. He used to play in drive in discos during early days, playing out hits from the Dutch charts. He gained a residency in a well known club in Breda called ‘Spock’ where his house beats with a bass heavy groove caught the attention of the Rotterdam based label, Basic Beat Recordings.

The label was instrumental in Tiesto’s first mixed series called ‘Forbidden Paradise’. He soon formed his own record label called ‘Black Hole’ and released his famous ‘Magik’ series of discs. The first two ‘Space Age Volumes’ and ‘In Search of Sunrise 1, 2 and 3’ were mixed by him, making him a well known figure in US.

His popularity further zoomed in US with his release of ‘Summerbreeze’ in 2000. The mixed album topped Bill Board charts at #3. The album contained the remix of ‘Silence’ and featured the vocals of Sarah McLachlan and set dance floors on fire. The album in fact is considered as one of the most influential released in the progressive dance genre. The world was at his feat and he was real hot.

He has also collaborated with fellow Dutchman Ferry Corsten and the master Paul Oakenfold, who is a good ally of Tiesto. Tiesto has mixed the opening track of Paul Oakenfold’s album ‘Bunkka’. His remix for Dave Mathew’s band ‘The Space Between’ was a smashing success.

He is a natural with crowds. This was evident in the summer of 2001 when he played at Godskitchen in Ibiza. The prestigious Cream gave him a residency in 2002.His performance in the Coachella Festival in Palm Springs made him a darling of America. His tour of US in 2002 along with Carl Cox, Digweed, Moby, and David Bowie was a huge hit with fans.

This phenomenon has been voted the number 1 DJ in the world by DJ Mag not once but twice in a row for 2002 and 2003! Now that’s what you call talent.
