Beyonce

Beyonce’s musical journey began very early, in fact she was just seven when she met LaTavia Robertson while auditioning for a kids group. She along with her cousin Kelly Rowland and LeToya Luckett, all girls with big dreams became the famed ‘Destiny‘s Child.’ The group was managed by her father Mathew Knowles, who happened to be from Music World Management. This music diva’s efforts showed its worth in the block buster album ‘Dangerously in Love.’ With lush ballads and seductive tempos, this album places Beyonce as a creative force to reckon with.

Starting small at local events Destiny’s Child moved on to national television with their debut performance on Star Search. What stood out was their refreshing originality and strong voices. Very soon they had graduated to becoming the opening act for popular R & B and hip hop acts as SWV and Dru Hill. The group’s first album was released in 1998 under the Columbia Records label. Who can forget the scintillating hit single ‘No, No, No’ from the album, which went platinum. Destiny’s Child in fact received three awards at the 1998 Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards. It was soon followed by a bigger hit, ‘The Writing’s on the Wall,’ released in 1999, a top- tenner in the billboard album charts.

The album was to reach triple platinum status by the end of the year, not to forget the two Grammy nominations in 1999. Yet another feather on the group’s crowing glory was an ‘Image Award’ by NAACP. This was followed by contributions to soundtracks of popular movies like Life and Romeo Must Die. After some major reshuffling within the group due to ‘creative differences,’ Destiny’s Child has now Beyonce along with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams as a trio. The trio continues to bask in the glory of the group’s third album ‘Survivor,’ a massive hit.

Beyonce is the first African-American woman and the second woman ever to receive the coveted 2001 ASCAP Pop Songwriter of the Award for Destiny’s Child. Many of the groups hit songs are co-written and co-produced by Beyonce.

Beyonce’s tribute to her father ‘Daddy’ was produced in collaboration with Mark Batson while the sexy first single ‘Crazy in Love’ was co-produced with Rich Harrison. The gay abandon spirit continues to flow in ‘Speechless’ produced by Fanatic. This multi-faceted personality starred in MTV’s ‘Carmen’ in 2001. She has also appeared as Foxy Cleopatra in ‘Austin Powers in Goldmember’. This apart she features in a series of Spike Lee directed commercials for Pepsi-Cola, apart from being a spokesperson for L’Oreal.
